Broadway: The American Musical

Broadway: The American Musical
My first appearances were with Vaudeville companies that toured. One of these companies was called the "Ziegfeld Follies" It is how I began my career. The first couple paragraphs in this source are the best for telling about what the group "Ziegfeld Follies" did.. I think it gives a real outlook on how I began my career in Vaudeville and Jazz. Vaudeville taught me alot about show business and the theater. I am happy I began my career with such a fabulous group!

This is a picture of Hartford Connecticut. I was raised is Hartford Connecticut after my family and I movwd from Russia.. I was very young then. My parents were owners of a restaurant and were not supportive of me being in showbusiness.. although... when I hit it big my parents were a little bit more understanding of my choices.

Sophie Tucker in the 1940's

This is  picture of me and how I looked in the 1940s. I thought the feather on my head and the fur coat really showed about my Vaudeville background. I loved to look glamorous and really be a show stopper!

Recording of Sophie Tucker singing "Never Let the Same Dog Bite You Twice"

Most jazz singers these days know most of my songs... but I have taken a special liking to this song because of how comedic it is. The lyrics and even how it begins.. it has always been quite a hit. It is from my album "The Very Best Of Sophie Tucker."

Recording of Sophie Tucker's hit song "Some of These Days" written by Shelton Brooks

Recording of "Some of These Days" by Sophie Tucker

This is a recording of me singing my hit song "Some of These Days" written by Shelton Brooks. It is the song that really made me popular and started my career. I first recorded it in 1926. I am grateful I was the one who made it popular because many other singers have sung it over the years such as Ella Fitzgerald... etc... But I love everything about this song. The tune and the lyrics are relatable and overall I find it very pleasing to the ears!

"Stage-'Sophie,' Musical Drawn from Tucker"

By the end of my career I was very well known as a comedian and actress. So well known that I inspired a musical!  It was written based on the story of my life.  From begginning to end! Although it didn't become as well known as "Phantom of the Opera"... It is VERY noteworthy!
This is an article that tells a little bit more about it.
